“What?” he shouted as he stepped out of the machine. “What happened?”
It was the same world, the same moment, the same park, the same trees, the same everything as when he had stepped in.
Nothing had changed.
He slammed his fist into the hard metal side of the clunky box, screaming with anger.
“All…” His hand crashed down again.
“Those.” And again.
“Years!!” And again.
A park ranger walked up to him. “Are you alright, sir?”
“No! I am not alright,” the man shouted loudly. “And you want to know why? Because you aren’t supposed to be born yet!”

I found this slightly humorous. Apparently his machine didn't send him back in time like he wanted. :)
ReplyDeleteI like how you have details ("It was the same world, the same moment, the same park, the same trees,") while describing the reasons for frustration. Very compact and efficient. Good for drabbles, I believe.
ReplyDeleteI also like the subtle simplicity of this. It doesn't take a lot to understand it, but you don't realize it's simple until you think about it.
Yeah, it's clear. I like this one. The repetition of "same" in that line that Jacob mentioned had a great effect. Plus, the whole drabble made me laugh. Poor guy... :)
