The sun had set long ago, but artificial lights shone brightly high above the cement floor. An old man in green smock walked down the walkway with a broom. A young man sat alone on a bench, leaning forward, his eyes watching the opening at the far end of the gaping tunnel. As the clock buzzed one, a great winding machine came rumbling forward and screeched to a halt. The young man stood up and watched another man step to the ground. They clasped hands, and they embraced each other laughing. “At last, brother,” one whispered and the other nodded.

Thats really cool, I like the description a lot.
ReplyDeleteSo what is this drabble of 100 words? It's really cool and I noticed that Siobhan does them also.. Do you limit your ideas to 100 words? :)
Exactly. A real drabble can only be 100 words.
ReplyDeleteBekah, I love the imagery of the first sentence. Something about the contrast of sunlight with artificial lighting (eew, fluorescent lightbulbs! :P) makes the scene very real.
ReplyDeleteThanks Emma! I am pretty sure that description was influenced by either you or Nikki. :D I have found a little group of people whose writings I admire, and you are one of those people :)
